HUGE VINTAGE WHEEL FROM SAN FRANCISCO FERRY "HAYWARD"
This huge wheel from the San Francisco Ferry "HAYWARD" comes with a provenance documenting its rich history. We were fortunate to receive with the other documentation an original letter from the "San Francisco Maritime Museum" addressed to the previous owner dated Sept.25, 1968, a reference made and a photo of the "Hayward" under way. Built by Los Angeles Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Corp.of San Pedro, CA in 1922. Entered service in 1923, first to keys ferry service, then to Portland, Oregon in 1943, then towed back to San Francisco that year to haul workers to S.F. bay shipyards. Following its yeoman wartime service it was sold for scrap in 1947. This "One of a Kind" huge 10 spoke Ferry Boat wheel features a huge bronze hub, great two tone wood contrasts. A Museum Quality wheel with a great history! Don't miss this one!
