USN PRACTICE SWORDS circa 1860U. S. Navy Practice Swords from 1860. The 36" long blades are wood, which is springy like hickory. The hand guards have the nicks and dents you might expect from something of this vintage, probably caused by sailors practicing their sword fighting techniques against each other. FRENCH MILITARY SWORD circa 1840'sIt looks like this sword has seen a lot of action. Brass grip, stamped on blade is the #5, hard to read Made by "Talabot", with the year not legible. One side of the blade is good, the other side shows rust. The rusty side can be cleaned or concealed by putting its face to the wall. The blade point has been reshaped and the blade has some nicks. Length is 24 3/8". |
