Original Brass World War II - 1944 Marching
Compass with Mother of Pearl Dial (In
Working Condition)
Now you can discover the pleasure and pride
of owning or giving the legendary World War
II Prismatic Marching Compass. Originally
the compass was painted black over brass to
not reflect light causing detection during
war conditions. Back of unit marked: T.G.C.
Ltd. No. 8 294135 and
Arrow mark (British service I.D. mark) with
Mils Mk 1-1944 also engraved.
This is an authentic working precision
instrument crafted to such exacting
specification that it can confidently claim
to be the most accurate prismatic hand
bearing compass ever made. A compass
designed to be used under the toughest
condition, as well as admired for its
history, nostalgia and classic good looks.
Patented by the noted military inventor,
Captain Verner, and first used by gentlemen
officers during the African Boer War, the
Marching Compass has been standard British
Army issue throughout most of the twentieth
century, and continues in modern version
today.
The Mark 3 Marching Compass saw service
during and after WW II.

Rare Vintage Museum Quality-"John E. Hand & Sons Co" BinnacleOne of the finest vintage Binnacles I have had the privilege of offering for sale. This majestic unit is 55 1/2 " tall x 29 1/2" wide. The base is 19 1/2 " square- 3 1/2" thick with polished brass ball-headed fasteners. The main body is embellished above the base with perfect round wood turnings from which the stout main body rises. There are 3 hinged wood compartments in the front, 2 with 5 3/4" x 16" doors which open to reveal areas where magnetic rods could be inserted in the round horizontal holes. These assist the Compass Adjuster with calibrating the Compass. The 3rd door allows one to change the light bulb that can light up the compass from below. On each side are the brass brackets holding the red and green compensating balls. |
