ANTIQUE THREE LEGGED DOLPHIN YACHT BINNACLEA three legged dolphin yacht binnacle. Heavy three legged brass base shaped like dolphins, with their tails supporting a beautiful polished and lacquered brass mushroom shaped compass basin. Crowned with an extra ordinary beautifully made hood, sporting two great oil burners, flanking a large 13 3/4" x 9" oval shaped viewing port. Burners are missing, which is not unusual for old binnacles. Width of the hood is 18 1/2", height of the binnacle is 43". The all brass dry card compass is 11" wide. The rare 9" dry card is boldly marked "'the Lord Kelvin compass card." There is a brass finial in the center top of the hood. Very few antique three legged yacht binnacles are still in existance. Most are in museums, so here presented is a great find. We have endeavored to show close ups of this great compass. Very rare museum quality! Por |
